# Instfy Data: legality and data protection

Understand the public nature of Instfy Data's data, what we collect, what we use it for, how we protect it and how to request a correction or removal.

Instfy Data publishes company information from official public records. This page explains, in plain terms, what that means, what personal data appears and what your options are to request changes.

:::note
This page is for information only and does not replace the Instfy privacy policy, available at [instfy.com/privacy-policy](https://instfy.com/privacy-policy/).

## Florida public records

**Sunbiz** is the official business registry maintained by the Florida Division of Corporations. The information a company submits to the State in its registration and annual reports, such as name, address and officers, is available to the public on Sunbiz itself.

Instfy Data organizes these records by company, city and industry and adds analysis. It is independent and **is not affiliated** with the State of Florida or any government agency.

## Officers' personal data

The names, titles and addresses of officers (partners and officers) shown in profiles come from the records the company itself filed with Sunbiz. Instfy Data does not look for this data in other personal sources.

## What we collect and what we do not

| We collect | We do not collect |
|---|---|
| Public company registration data (Sunbiz) | Financial, banking or credit data about individuals |
| Data provided by the business owner when claiming and editing the profile | Personal documents beyond what appears in the public record |
| Messages sent through the contact button and service requests | Plain-text passwords (login uses managed authentication) |
| Account data of registered users | Plain-text IP addresses on Rewards clicks (we store only a hashed version) |

## What we use the data for

- Displaying public company profiles and enabling search.
- Calculating the score, Trust Score and assessment.
- Allowing owners to claim and update their profile.
- Forwarding visitor messages to the company.
- Offering users with an account B2B prospecting tools, such as lists and export.

## Security practices

- **Access control:** the workspace requires login. Internal pages and APIs are not indexed by search engines.
- **Restricted writes:** general changes to the database can only be made by Instfy administrators.
- **Protected forms:** claim requests, contact messages and service requests can be sent by anyone, but are only read by the Instfy team.
- **Protection for message senders:** the company only sees the details of whoever contacted it after its profile claim is validated.
- **Keys and secrets** for services are kept only on the server, never in the browser.

## Principles we follow

Laws such as the LGPD (Brazil), the GDPR (European Union) and the CCPA (California) share principles that guide our work, though this does not represent a certification:

- **Purpose:** use data for the objectives described on this page.
- **Necessity:** display only what is useful to identify and evaluate companies.
- **Transparency:** indicate the source of each piece of data and provide the link to the official record.
- **Quality:** allow corrections and show missing fields instead of estimating them.
- **Handling requests:** receive and review correction and removal requests.

## How to request a correction or removal

Write to dpo@instfy.com with the subject "Instfy Data: correction" or "Instfy Data: removal".

Include the profile address (link to the company page) and the Sunbiz document number.

Say which data should be corrected or removed and why.

If the request is about you as an officer, include your name as it appears on the profile.

The Instfy team reviews the request and replies to the same email.

:::tip
If the data is wrong on Sunbiz itself, correct the official record as well. Otherwise, the information may come back in a future load.
:::

Business owners can also **claim** their profile and update contact details directly (see [Data overview](#/instfy-data)).

## Frequently asked questions

### Is it legal to publish data about Florida companies?

The data comes from Sunbiz, the official public registry of the State of Florida, where company information is available to the public. Instfy Data organizes these records and indicates the source on each profile.

### Why does my name appear as an officer of a company?

Because it appears in the records the company filed with Sunbiz. If the information is out of date, correct the official record and request the update by email at dpo@instfy.com.

### Can I request the removal of a profile or a piece of data?

Yes. Send the request to dpo@instfy.com with the profile link, the Sunbiz document number and the data in question. The Instfy team reviews each request.

### Is Instfy Data certified under the LGPD, GDPR or CCPA?

We do not claim certification. We follow the common principles of these laws, such as purpose, necessity, transparency and handling requests from data subjects.

### Where is the Instfy privacy policy?

The privacy policy is at instfy.com/privacy-policy. This page is for information only.
